Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) grows along the Mediterranean coast, recognisable by its spiny purple flowers, and it has been part of European herbal practice for a very long time, first as a tea and now as a capsule. Silymarin is the plant's active constituent and is known for its antioxidant properties.
