J.CROW'S Lugol's Solution is the classic 2% iodine preparation, in a 60 ml dropper bottle. Iodine is one of the elements the thyroid gland runs on, and this is the bottle people reach for when they start thinking about their intake — particularly anyone living inland who rarely eats fish or sea vegetables.
How to take it
Build up slowly. On day one, a single drop in a glass of water. Add one more drop each day, and do not go beyond 10 drops a day. Morning, on an empty stomach, is the usual timing. Working up gradually rather than starting high is the step people skip, and it is the one that matters.
Good to know
- 60 ml, 2% Lugol's solution, taken in water
- Do not take it continuously for longer than three months. Rest for two weeks before starting the cycle again.
- Selenium is commonly taken alongside iodine, whether from a supplement or from meat and nuts
- Iodine is taken up more readily when stomach acid is strong, which is why some people take apple cider vinegar after a meal
- Keep somewhere cool and dry, out of reach of children
