Pure Borax at 100% in a 100 g pack is a white, odourless mineral powder used in household cleaning and craft work, with no additives, fragrances or preservatives. A purity grade of 100% means the pack holds the material alone, so the concentration is set to suit each use rather than relying on a ready-made blend of unknown ratios. The 100 g pack suits anyone wanting a limited quantity for a specific use without storing large sacks.
What is borax?
Borax, also called sodium borate, is a naturally occurring mineral compound whose chemical name is sodium tetraborate, extracted from the deposits of evaporated salt lakes, then purified and milled into a fine powder. It is a water-soluble salt whose solution runs alkaline, and that alkalinity is the basis of its household uses going back decades.
Uses of borax
- Laundry booster: A small amount of borax added to wash water raises the alkalinity of the solution and supports the action of detergents.
- Softening hard water: Borax binds calcium and magnesium ions in hard water, so less detergent is wasted to scale.
- Surface cleaning: Dissolved in warm water for cleaning kitchen and bathroom surfaces and unglazed metal vessels.
- Odour control: Sprinkled into waste bins and damp areas to reduce odours.
- Craft work: Borax features in craft slime recipes and in traditional soldering work.
How to use
Dissolve borax in warm water before use, since warm water raises its solubility and prevents a powdery residue being left on the surface. Wear gloves during extended use, and test the solution on a small hidden patch before applying it across a surface or coloured fabric. Wash hands afterwards, and keep the pack closed in a dry place.
